Dual-Mode Exhaust Control at the Touch of a Button

In response to tightening global emissions and noise regulations, Vandemon has engineered a next-generation exhaust solution for the Ducati Diavel and XDiavel V4, integrating advanced materials and a bimodal acoustic control system that you can cycle between at a press of a button.

The system is fabricated entirely from Ti1-grade titanium, selected for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance. Compared to the OEM steel assembly, this results in a substantial mass reduction of 9.8 kg, directly improving power-to-weight performance, handling dynamics, and thermal efficiency.

At the core of the system is a bimodal variable muffler architecture, allowing the rider to electronically actuate between two distinct flow paths:

  • Stealth Mode (valve closed): Optimized for reduced sound output and compliance in urban or highway environments
  • Performance Mode (valve open): A straight-through, unrestricted flow path delivering minimal backpressure, increased exhaust velocity, and a significantly enhanced acoustic profile through four direct outlets

This design ensures optimal exhaust gas scavenging under high-load conditions while maintaining practical usability in regulated environments.

Additionally, the elimination of the OEM muffler’s dense steel construction significantly reduces radiant heat buildup, mitigating rider discomfort, particularly during idle or low-speed operation in high ambient temperatures.

Engineering & Performance Characteristics

Vandemon exhaust systems are developed with a focus on fluid dynamics efficiency, thermal management, and structural integrity. The use of titanium not only reduces system mass but also:

  • Lowers heat retention due to reduced thermal conductivity vs. steel
  • Enhances heat dissipation rates, reducing thermal soak into adjacent components
  • Provides superior resistance to oxidation, salt, and chemical exposure

All welds are executed using a proprietary full-penetration welding process, producing ultrasonically consistent joints with a flush internal profile. This minimizes turbulence within the exhaust stream and ensures long-term structural durability under thermal cycling.

ECU Calibration Requirements

Due to the significant change in exhaust flow characteristics, custom ECU tuning is mandatory.

  • Calibration should be performed by a qualified technician using a dynamometer
  • Tuning is optimized for Performance Mode (valve open) to achieve correct air-fuel ratios and ignition timing
  • The resulting map remains compatible with Stealth Mode, as reduced flow does not adversely affect engine operation under low-load conditions

Operational guidance:

  • Stealth Mode is recommended for low RPM, cruising, and urban environments
  • Performance Mode should be utilized under high load or performance riding conditions or all the time if maxiaumum sound impact is your desire.

Material Behaviour & Surface Finish

The system features a natural brushed titanium finish, which undergoes a visible transformation under thermal cycling. Exposure to high exhaust temperatures produces characteristic oxide-layer coloration, resulting in iridescent blue and red hues.

Unlike stainless steel, titanium:

  • Does not require polishing
  • Is inherently resistant to corrosion and staining
  • Maintains structural and aesthetic integrity over extended service life

Manufacturing Precision

Vandemon employs advanced fabrication techniques, including precision jig alignment and controlled-atmosphere welding, to ensure:

  • Complete weld penetration across all joints
  • Minimal internal surface disruption for optimal gas flow
  • Consistent dimensional accuracy across production units

Each system is supplied with all required mounting hardware, engineered for direct fitment and reliable installation.

WHY BUY A TITANIUM EXHAUST?

Due to its strength, weight and anti-corrosion quality, Titanium is found in the most demanding applications on Aircraft airframes, jet engine compressor blades and ducting, deep-sea saltwater vessels, steam turbine blades, rocket motor cases and F1 and MotoGP

OTHER ADVNATAGES OF TITANIUM

  • Very light, Increased power too weight ratio
  • Won't corrode or discolour
  • Never need polishing like stainless steel & aluminium
  • Dissipate Heat twice as fast as Stainless Steel

IMPORTANT!

Vandemon exhaust systems are designed for performance and modest sound improvements. We at Vandemon do not try to meet noise emission standards because simply the end results would be no different than what your OEM exhaust can already achieve. Check with your country's governing body regarding noise emission standards rules and regulations.
